The Priory Restaurant
Since February 2009 The Priory Restaurant has been under the direction of two Michelin star Executive Head Chef Michael Caines MBE. Michael, who has been Executive Head Chef at sister hotel, Gidleigh Park since 1994, is one of the highest profile Chefs in the UK - and with good reason. Awarded his second star in 1999 and an MBE for Services to the Hospitality Industry in 2006, in 2008 he also received the most prestigious accolade from his peers, the "AA Chefs' Chef of the Year Award 2008/9", following in the steps of other winners such as Gordon Ramsay and Heston Blumenthal.
Michael is no stranger to The Bath Priory; he has enjoyed a long association with proprietors Andrew and Christina Brownsword and been a visiting Guest Chef at this luxury hotel on numerous occasions.
While the cuisine is superb and innovative; the wine list is exemplary. Waiters are knowledgeable and the Sommelier more than happy to advise on which tipple will provide that perfect match.
Both the main restaurant and private dining areas are light and elegant. In the main restaurant, deep damask banquette seats with feather cushions and taupe coloured walls mix with contemporary mirrors and lighting to provide a rich and warm ambience. Some delightful and "serious" art adorns the walls, a Mary Fedden among them. The private dining rooms have a slightly more contemporary feel - but wherever you eat you know the experience will be a gastronomic delight.
The provenance of the food is all-important and the produce is sourced in the South West (some as local as the Priory's own Kitchen Garden).
