Social & Environmental Responsibility
The Bath Priory Hotel Corporate Social Responsibility Policy 2009/2010
The Bath Priory Hotel values its people, guests and the environment equally and is committed to continuous improvement in its approach to Corporate Social Responsibility.
All employees are encouraged to follow the principles of the policy to assist the hotel in meeting its CSR objectives and our ‘Sustainability Committee' ensures that these policies are regularly reviewed and assessed.
As members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme, the leading sustainable tourism certification scheme in the UK, we are assessed against a rigorous set of criteria, covering a range of areas, like energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and more.
Environment:
- We recycle all waste paper, glass, cardboard and plastic bags and have invested in a waste compactor. We also aim to have a glass imploder in 2010 which will significantly decrease our waste output
- Waste food and used kitchen oil is collected, composted and recycled
- We are constantly striving to reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint by monitoring and reducing our daily energy use. We are decreasing our energy requirements by better design of refurbished areas and installation of energy efficient equipment wherever possible (for example to save electricity we have installed timer switches in key staff areas)
- We recycle all glossy magazines by donating them to the local hospital waiting rooms
- We source quality ingredients from small businesses and artisan suppliers within the area
- All bread and meat (and most vegetables and cheeses) originate within a few miles of the hotel
- We use local businesses (with like-minded ethics) for stationery, plants and herbs and laundry services. One of our preferred printers (Park Lane Press) was ‘Environmental Printer of the Year 2008’
- Our green policy is placed in a prominent location in every bedroom and we actively encourage guests to re-use their towels if they are staying for a few days
- We advise guests of a pedestrian route into the city through the city’s largest park, passing by the famous Royal Crescent
- All of our training takes place locally, which negates the need for people to travel
- We implement sound gardening practices and composting
Health & Safety:
- We are continually developing and improving our health and safety policies and training programmes to maintain a safe environment for our guests, employees and contractors
- We are continuing to set standards to meet the requirements of health and safety and environmental legislation
- We understand that every customer has different needs and we aim to make our hotel facilities available and accessible to all of our guests equally
Sustainability & Sourcing:
- We are committed to responsibly sourced food products and ingredients, following seasonal trends and sourcing from the local area or the UK whenever possible to reduce food miles
- We encourage all departments to use local suppliers and contractors, where possible to actively support the local community and reduce delivery and travelling mileage
- Where possible we only use suppliers who in turn have and implement an environmental policy
- Jugs of iced tap water are available to guests on request
Community:
- We are committed to giving something back to the community and have relationships with local charities such as Dorothy House and Children's Hospice South West
